Workers under CITU stage anti-government protests

Employees and workers from various trade unions today held a protest under the banner of Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU) led by CPI (M) leader MY Tarigami in city here against the Central and State Governments.According to GNS correspondent, the CITU had called for strike and protests today in entire country to protest against the government police. As part of the programme, the employees and workers of various trade unions staged a demonstration at Municipal Park here and raised slogans against government.The protesters shouted vociferous slogans against PM Narendra Modi and CM Mufti Sayeed and alleged that they are “victimizing” working class of the country and the state.

Tarigami said that the Modi promised people of economic prosperity but the general public has been left disappointed. He appealed labours and workers to unite for their cause and agitate jointly.The protesters amidst sloganeering started their march from the Municipal Park and when they reached near Regal Chowk, contingents of police including female cops stopped them. “The protesters offered stiff resistance and had a scuffle with the cops. The cops however resorted to cane charge and managed to disperse the protesters,” eyewitnesses told GNS.Reports of protests were also received from Pulwama district of south Kashmir where hundreds of workers took to streets against the government.
