Sheep awareness camp held at Dialgam Anantnag

District Development Commissioner, Anantnag today inaugurated livestock show cum sheep awareness camp organised by sheep husbandry Department Anantnag at Dialgam Anantnag.The livestock show cum awareness camp was organised to attract more and more breeders across the district for encouraging them besides making them aware about the different central and state sponsored schemes launched for the welfare of the people associated with the sheep farming.Revealing details of the schemes and overall status of the sheep farming in district Anantnag, District Sheep Husbandry Officer said that the district is having a total sheep population of 2.23 lakhs besides 0.33 lakh goats and the mutton production has reached upto 13.2 lakh Kgs. The department is having 37 Sheep Extension Centres besides one first aid centre in the district which is pided into six intensive sheep blocks.

Giving details of the programmes run during the current year, it was informed that three units of mini sheep farms consisting of 50 rams have been established besides three more units comprising of twenty five rams. Three goat units have also been established in three blocks besides holding of different awareness camps regarding sheep rearing, disease cause, control and prevention in collaboration with SKUAST centre Dooru.District Development Commissioner while speaking on the occasion urged the people and unemployed youth in particular to opt for sheep rearing and associating themselves with establishment of sheep units for social and economic development and prosperity besides earning their livelihood.District Development Commissioner appreciated the concerned for conducting the awareness camp and directed for holding of such camps frequently with broader prospective.Besides others Joint Director Farms, Sheep Husbandry department also spoke on the occasion.
