State Consumer Protection day celebrated in Doda

A seminar on the Jammu and Kashmir Consumer Protection Act, 1987 marked the celebration of State Consumer Protection day in Doda.The seminar organized by Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution Department was held at conference hall in which MLA Doda, Shakti Raj Parihar was the chief guest.Deputy Commissioner Doda Bhupinder Kumar, Senior Superintendent of Police Doda Z.N Manhas, ACR Doda  Vaibhav Kohli, AD  CA&PD  Doda  Mohd  Sayeed, TSO Doda Romesh Chander, District Officers, President Bar Association Doda, Social Activists and consumers attended the seminar.

Different resource persons with diverse experience in the field of law and social work apprised the participants about the various technicalities of all the provisions of the Act. 

Prominent lawyers highlighted the objectives of the Act ,its extent and coverage besides  who is consumer, who can file a complaint during contravention of provisions of the Act, what constitutes the complaint, where and how to file a complaint were explained in details by the experts of the subject.Relief available to the consumers, procedure for filling the appeal and penalties prescribed under the Act were also highlighted.On the occasion, MLA assured to make Consumer redressal forum functional at the district level. 

Responding to the complaints regarding the supply of sub standard flour, MLA directed the AD CA&PD not to unload any defective consignment and bring to his notice the matter for appraisal of higher authorities for timely redressal. MLA asked for conducting field survey of BPL card holders and initiate steps to weed out undeserving beneficiaries.Deputy Commissioner Doda appealed consumers to be vigilant and properly check the expiry date and MRP at the time of purchase of articles besides consumers should insist for cash memos, check the date of packing, Batch NO, ingredients at the time of purchase of packed food stuff. He also advised to avoid self medication and purchase drugs from licensed chemist shops only.
