The country’s elite force Rapid Action Battalion men allegedly gunned down a suspected pirate at Darjarkhal area under Swarankhola sub-district in southern district Bagerhat early Monday.RAB claimed that the dead Khalilur Rahman, 32 of Patharghata sub-district in Barguna district was the second-in-command of pirate gang ‘Monir Bahini’.Lieutenant Colonel Faridul Alam, commanding officer of RAB-8, Barishal, claimed that the suspected pirate was killed in a gunfight between the members of RAB and the terrorist gang in the Sundarbans while the miscreants were planning to carry out drives at around 5:30am.Sensing the presence of the RAB men, the pirates opened fire at elite force prompting them to fire back, triggering a gunfight. After half an- hour fight, the pirates thought themselves defeated and fled the scene. The RAB men recovered the body from the spot while the situation came under the control of the force, said the RAB official.The RAB personnel recovered four single-barrel foreign guns, three local guns, an air gun, three pipe-guns, six machetes and 100 rounds of bullets from the spot, the RAB CO added.
