Horticulture dept distributes 500 fruit plants among locals

To identify new areas for fruit plantation and make farmers   aware about the benefits of fruit cultivation, Horticulture department   Reasi today organized an awareness camp here at Serla Bagha.The department also distributed 500 pomegranate fruit plants among the farmers.The farmers who evinced interest in developing orchards were asked to give their names to be part of farmers’ group tours within and outside the state.The farmers were told that during the tours they would be made aware about the latest techniques in developing orchards, packaging and marketing.The Chief Horticulture Officer Reasi   Sushil Angurana stressed upon the farmers to adopt IPM, INM and organic farming techniques, while developing orchards. He also gave a brief about various schemes of Horticulture department and assured the farmers of every type of help in developing    orchard and marketing of the fruit.Team of experts educated the farmers about identification of pests and diseases that attack fruit trees and remedial measures for the same.
