Minister for Education, Naeem Akhtar, Tuesday inaugurated the new building of Government Degree College Damhal Hanjipora, that has come up at an estimated cost of Rs 9.44 crore.Minister of State for PHE, Irrigation, Flood Control, Animal Husbandry and Forest, Abdul Majid padder, Member Parliament, Nazir Ahmad Laway, Director School Education, Dr Shah Faesal, Deputy Commissioner, Kulgam, Dr Syed Abid Rashid Shah, SSP Kulgam, ADC Kulgam, SDM DH Pora, CEO, Kulgam besides other senior officers were also present on the occasion.Akhtar said coalition government headed by Mufti Mohammad Sayeed is committed to streamline the education sector and provide quality education to the students so that they are able to find avenues beyond the government sector.He said government is making concerted efforts to remodel the education sector and explore potentialities in students and promote creativity and inquisitiveness among them, through innovative measures of teaching like smart classrooms and modern vocational courses.The Minister, on the occasion also announced introduction of science stream in the college. He said teaching fraternity should also guide students to pursue career oriented vocational subjects besides focussing on their academic education.
The Minister said the college shall be developed as a model college and asked the college authorities to set aside around 50 Kanal college land for development of certain commercial ventures including crafts in order to supplement the new vocational courses in the college. He also directed the Deputy Commissioner to arrange for coaching classes for the students in order to help them prepare for various competitive examinations.On the occasion Minister of State for PHE assured flood protection measures for the college.MP Nazir Ahmad Laway announced from his MPLAD fund a computer lab, water purifier plant and two Smart Classrooms for the college. He also announced Rs.1 lakh for levelling of college ground, Rs 1 lakh for library facilities and an additional Rs 10,000 for purchase of national newspapers for the library.
Later, the Minister also visited Higher Secondary School, D H Pora where he announced introduction of Commerce stream besides a Smart classroom under ICT scheme.The Minister also asked the Director School Education to appoint an instructor for the already existing computer lab in the school and to arrange for training of teachers at NIELIT.During his visit a delegation of ReTs also called on the Minister and appreciated his innovative reforms to streamline the education sector including rationalisation, clubbing of schools, Smart Classrooms, remedial classes, infrastructural reforms, monitoring, accountability and verification of testimonials/ certificates and also presented their demands before him. The Minister assured them that all their genuine demands shall be given due consideration.
