Deputy Commissioner, Poonch, Nisar Ahmad Wani was awarded for coordination and the fool-proof arrangements made in connection with celebration of 69th Independence Day at Poonch.The award was presented to the officer by the Minister for R&B, Syed Mohammad Altaf Bukhari, who was chief guest on the occasion, at the conclusion of the function at Sports Stadium Poonch.Despite heavy rains and torrential winds, lashed the district prior to commencing the function, it was appearing impossible to hoist flag and holding march-past parade. But with the presence of mind shown by DC and the coordination of his team, the function was celebrated though late by one hour but with great pomp and show.
The Minister appreciated the efforts of DC besides his team of civil and police officers for making the event a success. He also hailed the courage of the students and their teachers, who despite the hostile weather conditions stood firm in the parade-ground and presented their programmes. Although some portion of stadium was filled with rain water but the students, without caring for it, took part in the march-past. They also presented colourful cultural programmes depicting the cultural heritage of the district.
