Modi escapes rains, Kejriwal doesn't

Nearly four hours after Prime Minister Modi addressed the nation at the Red Fort here on Saturday, heavy rains hit the area in north Delhi. Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal wasn't lucky though. He got drenched while giving his first Independence Day address.As Modi spoke earlier in the morning, the sky was overcast but it was humid. The hundreds gathered at the vast Red Fort lawn used the invitation cards and the paper listing the day's schedule to fan themselves.Elsewhere in the city, Kejriwal braved heavy rains as he gave his first Independence Day address after taking power in February. Modi had come to power in May last year.

According to the Met Office, rain or thundershowers could occur in many areas of the city.Maximum temperature is likely to hover around 34 degrees Celsius, the India Meteorological Department said.Friday's maximum temperature was 33.8 degrees Celsius, normal for this time of the season. The minimum temperature was 28.5 degrees Celsius, two notches above the season's average.
