Government of India owned Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) has suffered heavy losses from the fibre cuts in Civil Lines area of Srinagar city. The Nigam has held Roads and Building Department responsible for the losses and has alleged that during road construction process the R&B workers have acted in a careless way and cut the telephone cables at several places resulting in the disconnection of landline and broad band services in scores of areas of Srinagar city.Pertinently from last fifteen days the BSNL land line telephone connections and broad band services in scores of uptown areas of Srinagar city including Chanapora, Baghat Barzulla, Rambagh, Mehjoor Nagar, Natipora, Rawalpora and Sanat Nagar are out of order.

An official from BSNL told CNS that from past two weeks the R&B department has cut their cables at a number of places including Rambagh, Barzulla and Rawalpora. “The carelessness on part of R&B department has put thousands of BSNL subscribers in great trouble. We have been trying our best to restore the service,” he said. The official said that network challenges such as call drops, speech mutation, calls not going through, poor voice signals and quality among others are due to rampant cuts in underground fibre optic cables during road construction.
