The Committee on Public Accounts (PAC) of Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly Monday discussed and examined the audit report pertaining to the department of Health and Medical Education (H&ME) in a meeting held here under the chairmanship of Main Altaf Ahmad.Taking a serious note of the menace of spurious drugs, the Committee recommended cancellation of drug licences of the shops indulging in selling of substandard medicines. It also suggested application of Public Safety Act (PSA) against those indulging in sale of spurious and substandard drugs.Legislators Zaffar Iqbal Manhas, Aijaz Ahmad Khan, Mohammad Khalil Bandh and Syed Farooq Ahmad Andrabi attended the meeting.

The panel while reviewing the functioning of the health sector, urged the Directors of Health Services Kashmir and Jammu to ensure that patients receive the best possible treatment in all healthcare institutions.The panel asked them to monitor and conduct regular visits of the health institutions.Principal Government Medical College Srinagar informed the Committee that 200 haemophilic patients are registered in Kashmir division who are getting regular medical treatment.  He said Government provides Rs 1.5 crore annually while as the Department is providing Rs 2.5 crore from its own funds for treatment of the needy patients.  He said J&K Bank is also contributing towards the treatment cost of these patients. Among others, Additional Secretary, Health and Medical Education, Director Health Services Kashmir, Director Health Services Jammu and other senior officers of H&ME and Assembly Secretariat were present in the meeting.
