DC Leh visits Nubra, assesses damages

Saugat Biswas, Deputy Commissioner/CEO, LAHDC, Leh today visited Nubra valley to assess the damage caused by heavy rains and mudslides over the past two weeks. He was accompanied by SDM Nubra, BDO Diskit and Panamik, BMO Diskit, Ex En PWD Diskit and other concerned officers and village representatives. MLA Nubra, Deldan Namgyal was also present at Yulkham village. Later, DC/CEO, LAHDC, Leh also visited Turtuk village.The assessed damage include 29 houses in Khalsar village, 1 house in Lakjung and 2 houses , in Yulkham, 4 houses in Yulkham village and in Kyagar 6 houses, while in Sumoor 2 houses were completely damaged and 40 were filled with debris from mudslides. In villages across the region, there is heavy damage to head works and irrigation khuls, agricultural land, foot bridges and road networks. The concerned department have carried out restoration of roads to ensure connectivity.At Tsati, villagers have submitted a memorandum to DC to carry out restoration work immediately.

At Tirit, a culvert has been damaged, which has diverted the stream water to the village. The villagers requested the DC to repair the culvert with the use of JCB.The powerhouse in Sumoor is filled with water and mud. As a result, there is no electricity in Sumoor and adjoining areas. The DC directed Ex En PDD to look into the matter and to provide electricity as soon as possible.The DC has instructed deputy registrar-cooperatives and AD-CAPD to provide free ration to those affected by the floods, who have been accommodated in respective village community halls. He has also asked Accounts Officer Leh to provide tents and other necessary items. He also directed Ex En and SDM to arrange for JCBs for the necessary works and the DC has assured them that the token money will be available with SDM, Nubra.The DC also directed the BDO to carry out works to construct footbridges under MGNREGA. Further, he directed the revenue department to make a detailed assessment of the damages to agricultural land and houses and submit the report to the DC Office at the earliest for further action.
