With incessant monsoon rain, Bhabadah once again started to roar as the river belt rose upward due to siltation caused a vast area of land under three sub-districts in Jessore district water-logged.Talking to 5 Dariya News  , Dr Humayun Kabir, deputy commissioner, Jessore told  that people of around 30 villages under Abhaynagar and Monirampur sub-districts  were suffering from water-lodging problem for over  two weeks.Visiting several villages under Abhaynagar, Monirampur and Keshabpur sub-districts in Jessore district, it was seen that incessant rain water caused water- logging at a vast area of land under the jurisdiction of Bhabadah sluice -gates that were set up in 1960s vowing to establish rule of human taking control over the nature.Water was seen ruling over all the cultivable lands, yards of houses and even inside of a number of houses at Mashihati, Dahar Mashihati, Baredah, Sundali and Dumurtala village under Abhaynagar upazila, Hatgachha, Sujatpur, Kultia and  Baje Kultia  villages under Monirampur sub-district and Panjia and Sufalakathi villages under Keshabpur upazila.Sefat Mehnaz, upazila nirbahi officer, Abhaynagar told 5 Dariya News that water entered some houses under the upazila. She, however, could not be able to provide any more information about the problem.

Sixty –years old Ranjita Mallik of Sujatpur Daspara under Monirampur sub-district  was seen wailing on the Nawapara – Mashihatia Road on Friday noon while passing through the road.She told 5 Dariya News that water grabbed the land where she had been living. She took shelter on the road along with a mentally- ill daughter of 20 years.‘Nobody approached towards me with his or her helping hands’, she sighed.Haridas Majumder, retired principal, North Khulna Degree College in Khulna and also a resident of Kultia village under Monirampur sub-district said village people of the area were suffering from firewood and scarcity of food for pet animals.A snake was found inside his residence while he was talking to 5 Dariya News on Friday, on Friday.‘We have to live in fear of snakes as water grabbed their holes’, he added.  

Talking to 5 Dariya News , Deepti Mallik, wife of Haran Mallik told that her family had to incur a loss of large amount of money as both the fish enclosures of 105 bighas and 27 bighas respectively were washed away in water at Hatgachha under Monirampur sub-district.Abdus Salam, confidential assistant to sub-district executive officer, Monirampur told that a total of 12 union councils out of 17 were affected in rain water under the sub-district. ‘Water grabbed some 54.15 square kilometers of land affecting 32,000 people of 10,000 families’, he added, ‘some 2,000 houses were partially affected in water.’Radha Rani Mondol, resident of Harishpur under Abhaynagar sub-district  told New Age that her family has been enduring untold sufferings due water-lodging problem. ‘Water grabbed my house making untold sufferings to us’, she added.

Paritosh Biswas, chairman, Sundali union council under Abhaynagar sub –district  whose office is located on the middle of Abhaynagar and Monirampur sub – district  and also owner of a number of fish enclosures told  that around 2 lakh people of  about 40 villages under Abhaynagar, Momirampur and Keshabpur  sub-districts were affected in water-lodging problem caused by Bhabadah sluice gates.‘Owners of fish enclosures have had a loss of around Tk 1 billion due to incessant rain and water –lodging problem,’ said Shariful Islam, a fish farmer.Salim Reza, a trader and also resident of Sharkhola area under Nawapara Municipality told  that water entered his residence due to incessant rain.
