Hundreds of Congress activists today staged protests in the twin capital\s of Jammu and Kashmir against the suspension of 25 MPs of the party by the speaker of the Lok Sabha on Monday.Reports reaching Srinagar based news gathering agency Global News Service (GNS) said that the Congress leaders and activists in Jammu and Kashmir simultaneously took out rallies in the capital cities to register their protest against the decision of Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan ordering the suspension of 25 party MPs. The Congress leaders termed the decision of the Speaker as most unfortunate and against the basic spirit of parliamentary democracy. Here in this summer capital, PCC President Ghulam Ahmad Mir took out a rally from the party headquarters Maulana Azad Road. The Congress state president joined by other leaders and workers tried to march towards the Governor’s House to submit a memorandum seek review and revocation of the decision.

However, the police intercepted the angry Congress activists near Banquet Hall, reports said.In a statement issued to media here, Mir described decision of Lok Sabha Speaker as undemocratic, unfortunate and against the basic contours of Indian Constituency. He hit out at BJP Government at Centre for trying to gag the opposition by indulging in undemocratic means.“Parliament is a temple of democracy. Congress party has the highest regards and respects for the Parliament, where everyone has the right to raise his or her voice representing the people. But the decision of the Speaker on the issues goes against the basic spirit and functioning of the Parliament, which is most unfortunate,” Mir said.Similar reports were also received from the winter capital, where Congress leaders and activists led by Sham Lal Sharma assembled at the party Headquarters and marched towards Residency Road. However, the police prevented the protesters, who were raising anti-BJP slogans.
