Minister for Education, Naeem Akhtar today said the Government is making earnest efforts to rationalize student teacher in Government schools across the State. The Minister stated this while on a visit to government-run schools in various areas of the city.During the inspection of schools in the Gulabbagh area, it was found that there were three government schools located in the same vicinity. In Government High School, Boys Gulabbagh there were 40 students with 17 teachers, while as two other schools including Government Girls High School and a primary school were also located in the same area with disproportionate student-teacher ratio.  Observing irrational student teacher ratio in the schools and also after consulting the community leaders, the Minister said that the three schools will be merged into single school with better infrastructural facilities such as library and laboratory, thus benefitting the students and also helping staff rationalization.

The Minister also visited middle school Zakura with 64 students. The school has a good building but also houses an independent primary school within it having two teachers and 19 students. The Minister gave on spot instructions to merge the two schools, saying that the merger will help the students avail better infrastructural facilities and resources. The Minister also assured that another incomplete school building in the same area that was coming up under SSA will be completed and put to appropriate use.Meanwhile, the Minister also visited Government Girls Higher Secondary School Khanyar, appreciating good numbers of students on roll, the Minister announced a computer lab and a smart class for the school besides construction of additional class rooms and introduction of various vocational subjects.
