Anti-State activities:Dozen youth picked up in North Kashmir

At least a dozen youth were arrested by government forces in North Kashmir’s Baramulla district on the charges of stone-pelting and subversive activities.Eyewitnesses told CNS that scores of protesters hailing from Karhama and adjoining villages descended on the Srinagar-Tangmarg road and blocked traffic at Wussan crossing to press for the release of 8 youth who according to them were picked up by the Army during nocturnal raids.“Forces picked up eight youths of Karhama village during Friday night. All the youth are innocent and they are being harassed for no reason. We don’t know the whereabouts of the arrested youth,” said an angry protester.

Both Army and police denied that any youth from Karhama village has been arrested by them. “Not a single youth was arrested by police,” said SDPO Tangmarg Rameez Rashid Bhat.Commandant 10 Sector of Indian Army Alok Naresh told CNS that Army did not raid any house in Tangmarg and it doesn’t known about the issue. “We have not picked up any one,” Naresh said.Meanwhile the residents of Khanpora Baramulla alleged that police have picked up three youth on the charges of stone-pelting while according to them they are all innocents and are not involved in any subversive activities. The locals identified the arrested youth as Javid Ahmed Dar, Fayaz Ahmed Kumar and Wasim Ahmed Darzi. (CNS)
