The Deputy Chief Minister of Punjab Sukhbir Singh Badal today said that Punjab is all set to promote medical tourism in a big way as this sector has a great scope to boom the economy of the state.Addressing the gathering while presenting the Human Achievers Awards at CII, Mr. Badal said that Medi-City at the New Chandigarh would be established on 300 acres, where world class hospitals would be set up. He said that “New Chandigarh has the potential to emerge as the Medical Hub of North India as Punjab has already equipped with first-class infrastructure in health sector comparing to the other states.The Deputy Chief Minister has also said that as India has the second largest populated country across the globe, but unfortunately Governments had not given much attention to provide medical facilities to the needy. Calling the NGOs to come forward to save girl child, Mr. Badal said that in Punjab Sex ratio has been improved due to the efforts of NGOs and policies formulated by the Punjab Government to empower women.
Mr. Badal also presented the Achievers’ Awards to 17 personalities and organizations for rendering distinguished services in various fields. The awardees included Dr. Ajay Rajan Gupta and Dr. Neha Gupta, UHICC for their contribution towards health care initiatives for Punjabis in UK & Punjab, Ajay Gupta owner of Glass Palace as Business Achiever, Davinder Sharma an International food Analyst for his campaign to encourage organic farming in India. Besides that Umendra Dutt , Kheti virasat Mission, for promoting Organic Farming in Punjab, Col. B.S Sandhu, CMD of WWICS for his contribution towards ethical immigration consultancy , Dr Sukhchain Bhullar (ENT) for his outstanding contribution in social work . Swaran Salaria (Mists of childhood) for his contribution towards creating awareness for child rights, Munish Nagpal for social work, Madhu Chitkara for exemplary contribution in the field of Education, Deep Malhotra (MLA) in business sector.
Sufi Singer Hans Raj Hans has been awarded with Life Time Achievement Award and PTC (Best TYP rating in Punjabi Channels across Globe). Famous actress Jonita Doda, who has worked in Punjabi & South Indian films, was also honored. Rohit Kumar (Campaign My earth my duty ), Kavita choudhary (Artist in TV show), Vineet Joshi , Asst Media Advisor Punjab, for his contribution towards setting new ethical standards of media communications and coordination in Punjab & Chandigarh and Param for being Best Anchor in Punjab.
Earlier, Industry Minister of Punjab Mr. Madam Mohan Mittal also addressed the gathering. The British Deputy High Commissioner in India, Mr. David Lelliott was specially honoured on the occasion.Senorita Issac, Chairperson of the Human achievers foundation was also present on the occasion.
