Western Command Hosts Seminar On 1965 Indo-Pak War

Western Command of Indian Army organised a Seminar on 1965 Indo-Pak War today at Manekshaw Auditorium, Chandimandir to commemorate 50 years of the victory. It was attended by a large number of serving and retired officers who had participated in the Indo-Pak War 1965.  Delivering the keynote address by Lt Gen KJ Singh, GOC-in-C Western Command remembered the martyrs of the Indo-Pak war with great reverence.  Eminent panelists consisting of War Veterans, Senior   Retired Officers and Military Historians deliberated on various facets of the War.Harmala Gupta, daughter of Lt Gen Harbaksh Singh, the then GOC-in-C of Western Command and  known as ‘Saviour of the Western Borders’ was the Guest of Honour.  A large number of veterans residing in the Tricity shared their experience and opinions with the large gathering comprising of officers and ladies.

The prominent among the speakers who covered a vide range  of subjects and events, included Lt Gen Harbhajan Singh, who elaborated on ‘Higher Direction of War’ and Lt Gen TSS Shergill , who covered ‘1 Corps Operations’. Similarly Lt Gen VK Kapoor, PVSM (Retd), Maj Gen K Ganguly, VSM (Retd), Brig Jasbir Singh, SM (Retd), Maj Gen KS Kohli (Retd) and Maj Gen SP Jhingon deliberated upon the important ‘Battle of Phillora’, while Lt Gen Depinder Singh (Retd) and Mr Rakesh Dutta  brought out the lessons learnt from the war. Eminent scholars like Dr. Kamal Kinger and Dr  Umrao Singh highlighted the then prevailing geo-political situation leading to the conflict.  On this occasion a two-minute silence was also observed in remembrance of the war heros of 1965 war.
