Security up in Kashmir after Punjab attack

Security has been beefed up in Jammu, Samba and Kathua districts in Jammu and Kashmir following the terror attack in neighbouring Punjab, police said on Tuesday."Security all along the international border in the three districts has been tightened to ensure that any infiltration bid by militants receives a hot reception," a senior police officer told IANS here.

Village headmen have been asked to report to the police if unknown or suspicious individuals are seen in their areas. More checkpoints have been set up in the three districts."Security forces are patrolling all link roads connecting with the Jammu-Pathankot highway," the officer added.

Seven people, including a superintendent of police, were killed on Monday when three terrorists said to be from Pakistan attacked Dinanagar town in Punjab's Gurdaspur district. All three terrorists were killed. Security has also been tightened in and around the Bhagwati Nagar Yatri Niwas in Jammu where the Amarnath Yatra pilgrims camp for the night before starting their onward journey to the Kashmir Valley, the officer said.Sujit Kumar, the senior superintendent of police of Reasi district in Jammu region, said security for the pilgrims heading for Mata Vaishno Devi shrine had been strengthened.

Two terror attacks have occurred in Kathua and Samba this year.On March 20, terrorists attacked a police station in Kathua district killing five people. Two terrorists also died.On March 21, terrorists attacked an army camp on the Jammu-Pathankot highway injuring two soldiers and a civilian. Both terrorists involved in the attack were killed.
