Director General Police (DGP) K Rajendara Monday nullified the reports that personnel from Jammu and Kashmir police had gone to attack site in Punjab’s border town Dinanagar in Gurdaspur.Talking to KNS he said, “Some bulletproof vehicles had been sent to the encounter site. But no forces from the state were sent. They (Punjab) have their own force, why should we send forces from here”Some news reports had earlier suggested that Jammu and Kashmir Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) team has reached the attack site in Punjab’s border town Dinanagar, where 11 people including five policemen were killed in an encounter with unidentified militants.
Asked whether there was any connection between ongoing Amarnath yatra and the attack, the DGP said he has no such information. “I don’t have any knowledge about such reports.”Asked whether any alert had been sounded in J&K in the wake of deadly attack in neighbouring state, Rajendra said, “Forces in J&K are always on high alert.”The attacks happened at wee hours on Monday in border town of Gurdaspur district. The town shares the border with Pakistan.
