Div Com reviews implementation of Drug and Food Safety Act in Valley

In order to ensure providing of quality food products and medicines to general people, Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir, Dr. Asgar Samoon convened a meeting of officers of Drug Control and Food Safety Departments here today and reviewed the implementation of Drug and Food Safety Act.The meeting was attended by Drug Controller, Kashmir and other concerned officers.The Divisional Commissioner directed the Drug and Food Safety Departments to conduct the inspection of the dealers of food product and chemists in the valley so that good quality of food products and medicine would be provided to the general public. He also directed the authorities to intensify market checking.

The Divisional Commissioner also obtained information regarding implementation of the Drug and Food Safety Act in Kashmir Valley from all the district officers of Drug Control Department through video conference and obtained all information about the achievements of the departments.Reviewing the functioning of the Drug and Food Safety Department, the Divisional Commissioner was apprised that 1816 inspections of chemists in Kashmir divisions were conducted from April 2014 to May 2015 while as 316 samples were lifted for verification. 

The Divisional Commissioner was also informed that 11 samples were declared as substandard. He was also informed that sub standard medicines worth Rs. 2.23 lakh have also been seized during the inspection by the Drug Control and Food safety department.Dr. Samoon was informed that 23 show cause notices were issued in favour of sub standard chemists. He was informed that the department has recovered Rs. 11.36 lakh as fine from the Drug defaulters while as action has been taken against 3606 wholesale establishments who were found selling sub standard medicines.
