To take stock of the situation arisen due to cloudburst in Mendhar sub-division, Member Legislative Assembly, Mendhar, Javed Ahmed Rana and Deputy Commissioner Poonch, Nisar Ahmed Wani today conducted extensive tour of the affected areas to get first-hand information of the damages caused to the public infrastructure and private property.
Accompanied by senior functionaries of district administration including Executive Engineers of PWD, PDD, PHE , I&FC, the MLA visited Kalaban, Chhungan, Chattral, Banola, Chak Banola, Narole and other low laying affected areas of Mendhar.
Expressing solidarity with the affected families, the MLA assured them all possible help. He said adequate relief will be provided to the affected people to enable them to cope up with the situation. He urged the PHE and PDD departments to ensure speedy restoration of damaged infrastructure like pipes and electric poles so that power and water supply is resorted in the affected areas.
The XEN I&FC was asked to restore all the damaged Khuls, besides taking up protection works along the local rivulet immediately to prevent further damages to private and public property. Assuring all possible help to the district administration in effective restoration of damaged infrastructure, Rana stressed for formulation of a comprehensive district disaster management plan to face such natural disasters.The District Development Commissioner also passed on necessary directions to the concerned officers for early restoration of disrupted services. He directed the Education Department authorities to shift damaged school building to a rented accommodation. He also directed the revenue authorities to start assessment of damages so that relief is provided to the affected families at the earliest.Stressing on speeding up restoration of basic services, the DDC instructed the officers to remain in a state of readiness to avert any eventuality in future.
Several houses and cattle sheds besides other properties including some cattle heads were washed away when a cloudburst hit Kalaban and Chhungan villages of Mendhar on July 23.One Pacca and four Kacha houses were fully damaged; one Kacha and four Pacca houses were severely damaged while eleven Kachha houses suffered partial damages. Six cattle sheds, six shops, one foot bridge and a school building were also severely damaged.
