Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee has demanded resignation of Deputy Chief Minister  Nirmal Singh, Minister for Forest Mr. Bali Bhagat and others who were party to the written commitment, representing the government and BJP, as they failed to fulfill the commitment regarding the setting up of  AIIMS in Jammu, after the deadline fixed by them expired on July 20.Describing it as the worst ever act of betrayal by the leadership of BJP with the people of Jammu region, which will go down in the history in ‘black letters’ for the sabotage of the movement of the people,  by those who were party to the commitment, with the people of the region through Co-ordination Committee, who were none-less than the Deputy Chief Minister, a Minister and besides other MLAs of the BJP in the presence of Speaker of Legislative Assembly, the eve of 72 hours bandh call on June 18th. This kind of betrayal after a categorical written commitment, with a specific deadline for the fulfillment of commitment, has no parallel example of its kind. The situation demands that those who are signatories and party to it, should resign from the respective positions and seek a public apology from the people. These persons have eroded the sanctity and the authority of the institutions and positions being held by them and brought insult to the highest institutions of democracy in the state.  They have mislead the people and tried to weaken the movement by their tactics.

An emergency meeting of Senior Congress leaders was held here today at PCC HQ. Jammu to discuss threadbare the issue of on going movement for AIIMS in Jammu region, in the wake of failure of the government to honour the commitment made to the people and decided to extend full support to the movement resumed by the  Co-Ordination Committee under the leadership of BAR Association Jammu. The meeting decided to intensify the struggle in order to force the state and centre government to fulfill the announcement of AIIMS for Jammu. The meeting appealed to the people to rise to the occasion to compel the centre and state government to honour the commitment and punish the BJP legislators for sell-out of the rights of people and their vain attempt to sabotage the movement in this regard. They also cautioned the people against various tactics being made by the government to weaken movement and divert peoples attention from AIIMS issue.

The meeting appreciated the people of Jammu region who have whole heartedly participated in the struggle for the purpose unitedly under the banner of co-ordination committee and the goal shall be achieved unitedly by the people. The meeting also took stock of the situation which has emerged in Rajouri for the past over couple of days and expressed serious concern over  such incidents and increased activities of  anti-social and anti-national elements in the state. Appealing the people to maintain calm and religious brotherhood, the leaders cautioned the people against the communal elements who want to damage the secular fabric of the state. The meeting was presided over by Shri Sham Lal Sharma-Senior Vice President PCC and attended by Shri Raman Bhalla, Mula Ram, Smt. Kanta Bhan-Vice Presidents PCC; Shri Ravinder Sharma-Chief Spokesman PCC; Rajnish Sharma; Yogesh Sawhney, Dr. Manohar Lal Sharma, Ch. Shah Mohammad, Manmohan Singh, Sdr. Manjit Singh, Shri Vikram Malhotra, Namrata Sharma, Faqir Nath         (all General Secretaries); Anil Chopra-President DCC Jammu (U), Kuldip Raj Verma, Ch. Sian Rasheed, Shashi Sharma, Neeraj Gupta, Choudhary Sukh Dev Singh  and others.
