Minister of State for Health and Social Welfare, Asiya Naqash today visited Hazratbal constituency and inspected various big and small drainage channels in the area including MalliBagh, Gousia Colony, Naribal Soura, Shah-i-Hamdan colony, Ahmed Nagar Soura and adjoining colonies.Municipal Commissioner, Srinagar, Executive Engineer R&B, Superintendent Engineer, Executive Engineer UEED and other concerned officers also accompanied the Minister.During the inspection, the Minister noted with concern the situation arisen due to encroachment on the drainage channels and issued on the spot directions to the concerned authorities to ensure that encroachment on drainage channels is removed immediately and all illegal structures choking the drainage network demolished.
Meanwhile, the Minister also directed regular cleaning of drains and Khuls in the area to prevent their blockage.She said Government has sanctioned a project worth Rs 23 crore to improve the overall drainage network in Hazratbal area adding that work on the project will be completed in phased manner.En-route, various deputations met the Minister and highlighted various issues concerning their areas for her intervention and consideration.
