Government Wednesday said that the violators of rate list would be sternly dealt even though shoppers have complained inflated rates in markets on Eid eve. Meanwhile, various markets in Srinagar wore a festive look on Wednesday.
According to KNS correspondent, various markets like the markets of markets of Residency Road, MA Road, Jamia Market and other small and big markets in Srinagar and across the valley witnessed a huge rush of shoppers on Wednesday. People were seen busy buying bakery, confectionary, dress material, kids wear and grocery. But the soaring prices of commodities left many customers high and dry.Many shoppers, who spoke to KNS¸, complained that prices of vegetables, fruits, mutton and other items have been “arbitrarily increased” manifold by traders in view of Eid.
“The CAPD Department is doing nothing to curb this problem. The claims of having constituted market checking squads seem to have fallen flat because the traders have increased prices of commodities arbitrarily,” said Mohmaad Aslam, a customer at Lal Chowk.When contacted CAPD, Chowdhary Zulfkar Ali, told KNS that he has directed the authorities to depute checking squad to markets and act tough against those violating rate lists.
Meanwhile Director CAPD, Abdul Rashid War told KNS that market checking is being conducted on routine basis. “I urge the people that if they find any trader or shopkeeper selling commodities at higher prices, they should contact us. We will take action against them,” he said, adding that people should not to pay more than official fixed rates to daily usage items. He added that rate for one Kg chicken was fixed at Rs 115 and Rs Rs 310 for one kg meat. (KNS)
