District Health Society Reasi today organized an awareness workshop to mark the celebration of World Population Day here at District Hospital.Chief Medical Officer- Dr Parminder Singh, Deputy Chief Medical Officer-Dr KC Dogra, Medical Superintendent District Hospital, Block Medical Officers of various blocks, Multi Health Workers and ASHAs were present on the occasion.During the workshop resource persons and experts delivered lectures on the family welfare and population growth and its effects on resources. They expressed their views especially on the decline in the sex ratio and suggested remedial measures in controlling population growth for the overall development of the country.
Speakers advocated the need to adopt family planning methods like condoms, oral contraceptives, IUCD's, and sterilization (laproligation/NSV) to stabilize the population growth and reduce the total fertility rate.Dr Singh while speaking on the occasion said that the theme of this year for World Population Day is “Vulnerable Populations in Emergencies”. He added that this event is a vehicle to build awareness on population issues and the impact they have on development and the environment.The CMO impressed upon the field staff to generate awareness among the common masses so that they can get maximum benefits from various schemes launched under National Rural Health Mission (NRHM).
