Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia on Thursday held a meeting here with representatives of private schools on the issue of fee regulation. The meeting came after the city government drafted an amendment to the Delhi School Education Act, 1973.An official statement said representatives of over 200 private schools participated in the meeting to discuss how the government can shield the common man from exorbitant fees without compromising the autonomy and quality of the schools.Citing a recent Assocham report, Sisodia said around 30-40 percent of the household income was being spent paying school fees.In the meeting, the school representatives expressed their concerns regarding high cost of land, teacher's salaries, commercial rates for electricity and water. The representatives also submitted detailed suggestions along with various working models that allow the schools to continue to provide quality education without compromising their autonomy, the statement said. The minister assured that the government respected the autonomy of the private schools and would not take action that would compromise quality.
