Senior Congress leader and former Union Minister Prof. Saifuddin Soz has met Governor NN Vohra and told him that the flood victims of Kashmir feel that they had been unprecedentedly neglected and discriminated by the Government of India. In a statement issued to KNS today, Soz said that during his meeting with Vohra they d discussed many subjects of public interest relating to the J&K State.“Among other things, I raised the question of sufferings of the people of Kashmir, whose life was rendered distraught by the unprecedentedly devastating floods in September, 2014. I refreshed the memory of Shri. Vohra as Chief Constitutional Authority in the J&K State, representing the Union of India, on the level of hardships flood victims were facing due to non-availability of relief from the Central Government,” he said, adding that he stressed the fact that according to a survey only 4% of the flood victims have got some relief through insurance companies. “I also explained to Shri. Vohra that half of the flood victims belonged to BPL category and their hardships of life can be very well imagined,” he said.“I further explained to the Governor that the general run of the flood victims had a feeling that they had suffered an unprecedented neglect and discrimination from the Central Govt,” Soz added.
