CPI (M) Tuesday held one day convention of party workers at Kokernag in South Kashmir which was attended by a large number of party workers. During its daylong deliberations, the convention discussed wide range of issues pertaining to political and socio-economic dimensions affecting the people in the state. The convention urged upon the government to implement the promises made to the people during elections. In a statement to KNS, while addressing the convention senior CPI (M) leader and MLA Kulgam Mohammad Yousuf Tarigami said that the government of India seems in deep slumber as far as the plight of people of Jammu and Kashmir is concerned.

Tarigami remarked that the much-needed rehabilitation of flood hit people seems to have been deleted from the priorities of the government of India and same is the case with other sectors of socio-economic development of the state. “Apart from flood relief package, the government of India has curtailed the funding drastically for Prime Minister’s Re-construction Plan (PMRP), Centrally Sponsored Schemes and other shares, he added.State Secretary CPI (M) Ghulam Nabi Malik in his address demanded immediate compensation to the people including Gujjar and Bakarwal, who have suffered extensive damage to their property due to landslides in the kandi areas of South Kashmir. He said that the administrative inertia vis-à-vis developmental schemes in South Kashmir are appalling.

“The situation on the ground seems no way different than it was during previous despensation rather it has further deteriorated. The state of affairs of the people particularly the flood victims continues to be murky as far as the delivery of the new government is concerned,” the CPI (M) leader observed. The convention also took stock of mounting problems of basic amenities faced by the people across the state and urged upon the government to translate its promises into action so that the sufferings of the people are mitigated. It cautioned the government of India not to ride roughshod over the plight of the people of the State. “Expectations of the people are very high but unfortunately there is no delivery on the ground and the government seems to be a mute spectator to the sufferings of people,” it observed. The Convention was presided over by senior Kisan leader Ghulam Hassan Harga. Senior CPI (M) leaders Ghulam Ahmad Ganaie and Mohammad Yousuf Wani also addressed the convention. (KNS)
