National Conference on Monday lashed out at the PDP-BJP Government’s ‘step-motherly’ approach towards Srinagar and said the dismal fund allocation for the entire eight assembly segments of Srinagar was an indication of how the Mufti Government wants to suffocate the capital city for want of infrastructure and development.NC Provincial President Nasir Aslam Wani while lashing out at the PDP-BJP Government’s ‘negligence’ of Srinagar, said all development works that were started by the previous Omar Abdullah Government in Srinagar had been halted by the present government. “Landmark development works that were launched by the previous Omar Abdullah Government in Srinagar have been halted and abandoned by this Government based on its political retribution.

This has not only created a development deficit in Srinagar but has also created a funding imbalance where Srinagar District’s funding allocation has gone down while that of other Districts has gone up. While we welcome an increase in funding to other districts, as and where it has happened, we are disappointed at the PDP-BJP Government’s step-motherly treatment of Srinagar”, he claimed in a statement to KNS.The NC Provincial President said this step-motherly approach towards Srinagar was extremely tragic given the sheer devastation the city had suffered due to the floods that hit the State in September. “Rather than augmenting the funding for Srinagar and ensuring the infrastructure here is rebuilt and upgraded so that the Capital City doesn’t suffer economically, the PDP-BJP Government has reduced the funding allocation for Srinagar as a mark of its vengeance towards the people. This is unbecoming of an elected government that has to espouse the rights of people from all regions without and prejudice or favor,” Wani stated.

“This Government promised the rebuilding of Srinagar and the rehabilitation of flood victims but went on to not only rob the flood victims of the 44,000 crore flood relief package, but also sideline routine developmental needs of the city. Works on health care centers, community centers, drainage and road networks and street electrification has been summarily halted causing inconvenience to the people. Despite their promises, the PDP-BJP Government of Mufti Mohammad Sayeed has proven to be a damp squib for the people of this State as a whole and particularly the people of Srinagar”, the NC Provincial President added.
