A State Level Rugby 7s festival 2013 was held at Gindun Sports Centre, Srinagar today. The event was organized by the Jammu and Kashmir Rugby Association in collaboration with Jammu and Kashmir State Sports Council.Minister of State for PHE, Irrigation and Flood Control Nazir Ahmad Gurezi was the Chief Guest on the occasion. About 300 Boys and Girls of under 17 and under 19 age groups drawn from Jammu, Poonch, Bandipora, Budgam, Srinagar, Baramulla, Kupwara and Ganderbal districts participated in the event. A large number of sports lovers and officials were present on the occasion.Speaking on the occasion, the Minister said that talent is present among the students of State but need is to channelize it in a proper way so that they can compete at National and International levels. He appreciated the organizers for organizing such events and asked them to organise such events in other parts of the State so that hidden talent of the budding youth is explored. He said Government under the dynamic leadership of Chief Minister Omar Abdullah is determined to promote the sports activities in the State adding that, in this regard sufficient funds have been earmarked and special focus is being given to strengthen the sports infrastructure.The Minister asked the players to hone their skill which will enable them to participate and compete at National and International levels.Interacting with the players, the Minister said that organizing such events provides a befitting platform for the youth to interact with each other and display their skills besides improving their overall personality.
Belmount Rugby Srinagar U-19 lifted the title, while Jammu district team was declared runner up.Later, Mr. Gurezi distributed prizes and mementos among the participating players and officials.
