The meeting of the Committee on Public Accounts of Social Welfare Department was today held at Assembly Secretariat under the chairmanship of Legislator Mian Altaf Ahmad.Legislators, M. Y. Tarigami, Aijaz Ahmad Khan, Muhammad Khalil Bandh, Satpal Sharma, Mr. Ajay Nanda, Mr. Rajeev Shrama, and Syeed Farooq Ahmad Andrabi were present in the meeting.Secretary Social welfare, Mr. Sanjeev Sharma, Secretary Tribal Affairs Mr. Ali Raza, Principal Accountant General, J&K, Director General Accounts and Treasuries, senior officers of Social Welfare and Tribal Affairs and Assembly Secretariat attended the meeting.The meeting discussed threadbare various aspects to further improve the working of Social Welfare and Tribal Affairs Department with special attention towards the people under Below Poverty Line.

The meeting was informed that Rs 28.36 crore were released during current financial year under post-Matric scholarship to ST students against which Rs 13.75 crore have been utilized on liquidation of liability for the year 2013-14.Earlier the members of the Committee gave their suggestions and recommendations for further improving of the departments.Speaking on the occasion, Mian Altaf urged upon the concerned officers for adopting the specific criteria in distributing the scholarship and ensures that all students living in far lung areas are covered under the scholarship scheme.
