Minister for Rural Development and Panchayat Raj, Abdul Haq today conducted an extensive tour of district Anantnag and took stock of the situation that has arisen due to incessant rainfall resulting in rising water level in Jhelum and other Nallahs leaving several parts of the district inundated and water-logged.The Minister visited Lal Chowk Anantnag, Mattan Adda, Diyalgam, Larkipora and other areas of Anantnag district to monitor the situation in the wake of incessant rains in the area.The Minister was accompanied by the officers of District Administration.While interacting with the people of the affected areas, the Minister assured them that the government would take all the necessary measures to help the people in the present situation. He also received brief on the loss of paddy and other crops besides damage to the orchards due to incessant rains.

Haq said the primary concern of the administration is to rescue people and evacuate stranded population to ensure that no loss of human life takes place. He directed the district administration to make all efforts to ensure supply of essential commodities, medicines and other basic amenities in the district, besides keeping health institutions functional and providing food and other facilities to the families who have been relocated to safer places in the wake of water-logging.The Minister also directed the administration to remain vigilant and stressed them to be at the beck and call of the people whenever required so that they do not face any inconvenience. He further directed for ensuring availability of sand bags and dewatering pumps in the district.Mr. Haq also directed for shifting people caught in danger areas to safer places so that loss of life is avoided.
