Srinagar , 17 Jun 2015

A teen-age girl who fraudulently withdrew cash from two ATM booths twice in last two months was arrested by Srinagar police from Habakadla area of Srinagar city. Pertinently, a lady from Rawalpora locality had registered a complaint that her purse containing Rs 20,000 cash and ATM card went missing while she was shopping at Gonikhan Srinagar. According to the complainant she had kept the pin number of the ATM card in the same purse. The Jammu and Kashmir Bank authorities had confirmed that on the same day a burqa clad girl had made a transaction by using the same ATM card at Lal Ded ATM booth. After the footage of the girl surfaced on social media networking sites, another lady from Hyderpora Gulburg colony had approached the police station with the same complaint and the Bank authorities were shocked to see the same half masked girl was involved in the fraud but that time she had withdrawn the cash from the ATM located at Ikhwan Chowk Khayam. A special team led by SHO Sherghari Muhammad Ishaq was constituted to trace the girl. “It was a blind case as the face of the girl on CCTV footage was not fully visible. Yet we put our efforts and traced the girl who hails from Habbakadal. She was arrested and an FIR vide number 44/2015 under section 379 and 420 was registered againt her,” SHO Sherghari told CNS adding that police station Kralkhud played a key role in tracing the girl.“The accused (name withheld) has been lodged in women’s police station Rambagh. She has confessed her crime. There is every possibility that the accused might have been working for a gang, and the matter is under investigation,” he said. (CNS)
