Governor chairs Court Meeting of Jammu Central University

Stresses inculcation of moral and ethical values among students besides achieving academic excellence

N. N. Vohra, Governor, has emphasized the crucial importance of focusing on inculcation of ethical and moral values alongside academic excellence for equipping the youth with the required knowledge and skills and preparing them to take on nation building tasks.The Governor, who is Chancellor of the Central University of Jammu, was chairing the 3rd meeting of the Court of the University, at village Bagla, in Samba district today.The members of the Court of the varsity who participated in the meeting included Mr. Naseem Ahmed, Gen. (Retd) N. C. Vij, Prof. K. L. Chopra, Prof. Abdul Wahid, Prof. V. K. Jain, Prof. Bharati Baveja, Prof. Champa Sharma, Prof. Rajinder Jeet Hans Gill, Dr. Madhu P. Kishwar, Mr. B. S. Baswan, Prof. Harjeet Singh Sehgal, Prof. M. K. Surappa, Dr. Shrikant Paranjpe, Mr. Sidharath Kak and Prof. Jigar Mohammad besides Prof. Ashok Aima, Vice Chancellor, Central University of Jammu and Mr. Jit Singh, Registrar, of the Central University of Jammu.

The Governor observed that since the entire alloted land has since been handed over to the university the Vice-Chancellor should organise redoubled efforts for the infrastructure being completed within a definite timeframe. To achieve this target he asked the Vice Chancellor to fix time targets for each item of work so that the entire campus is expeditiously in place.

 Referring to the introduction of new teaching programmes, the Chancellor urged the VC to undertake a critical analysis of the pros and cons of each course, taking into account the courses being taught by the adjoining universities in the State and the emerging pattern of employment avenues in the job market within J&K, in the country and worldwide. The Governor also planted a sapling of Chrosia in the university campus on this occasion.

The members of the Court put forth several important suggestions for the university being developed as a centre of excellence.The Court approved the Annual Report and Annual Accounts of the university for the year 2013-14.Earlier, the Vice Chancellor, made a presentation on the achievements of the university in varied arenas since the last meeting of the Court. He also presented details of the courses being presently taught and those in the pipeline. He added that the entire 4881 kanals of land has been taken over by the university and the infrastructure development will now be given the highest priority.
