District Development Commissioner Poonch, Nisar Ahmed Wani today had a meeting with OC, 79 RCC (GREF), G P Baniya to review the status of various vital roads being maintained by BRO.The DDC exhorted upon BRO to initiate immediate repair and restoration work on various important roads being looked after them as most of these roads are in extremely dilapidated condition. He said that several important roads in the district including strategic Kalai-Poonch via Chandak, BG-Mendhar-Balnoi, Khet-Sawjian are in poor condition resulting severe hardships to the people.
The DDC asked the authorities to give priority to restoration of Kalai-Poonch via Chandak road in view of the coming rainy season and delay in permanent restoration of Sher-e-Kashmir bridge. He said that resurfacing work on this road becomes more relevant especially in view of ensuing Budha Amaranth Ji Yatra.Referring to dilapidated condition of existing Hamilton bridge at Kalai over Suran river, the DDC asked the OC to expedite the construction of new 70R loading capacity bridge being constructed at the existing Hamilton bridge site.Assuring support from district administration, Wani asked the OC to go ahead with the removal of encroachments and widening of Kali-Poonch road.The OC informed the DDC that the resurfacing work from Bhatta Dhurian to Jogi Morh on BG-Poonch road is in progress and will be completed by end of July 2015.Wani asked the OC to start renovation work on Mandi-Khet-Sawjian-Gali and Sathra-Pindi-Gali road which are also in poor condition.
