Jammu , 14 Oct 2013

The just concluded session of State Assembly at Srinagar, mocked at people’s concerns as the legislators gave priority to discussion on General V.K. Singh rather than grievances of the people at the cost of state exchequer. Strangely, General V.K. Singh remained the dominant issue for NC-Congress and PDP legislatures in both the houses during the entire session giving the clear impression that J&K assembly legislators were obsessed by the former Chief of army and therefore no serious business was discussed or decision arrived at so that the public is benefited. Therefore, it was a session to betray the public in a very camouflaged manner and gave priority to self acclaimed esteem. This was alleged by Leader of BJP Legislative Party Ashok Khajuria, State President & MLA Jugal Kishore Sharma and Suchetgarh MLA Sham Choudhary, while addressing a joint press conference at party headquarters on Monday.

Ashok Khajuria clarified that he himself had moved resolutions to adopt the resolution passed by the Indian Parliament condemning the Pakistani assembly’s resolutions and the resolutions on West Pakistan and PoK refugees but those were  not entertained. He said that not only this, the adjournment motions and various important questions seeking replies from the concerned ministries were also ignored. It appeared that the ruling government followed some concealed directives to side track the genuine proceedings and so brought in the issue of General V.K.  Singh and kept it alive for the whole session as a result of which no proper business was conducted.

Jugal Kishore Sharma also alleged that the session was an eyewash and no genuine business concerns were highlighted nor the questions earlier registered were allowed to be raised, so and so that the bills and resolutions also were not taken seriously. Citing his own bill to include Hindi as official language along with Urdu in the state and plight of the reserved categories, were totally rejected. The resolutions on making provision of at least 12 gas cylinders and holding delimitation were also not entertained. Sharma maintained that this session should have been named as “Session on Gen. V.K. Singh” rather than customary session to discuss public issues.

Sham Choudhary claimed that he wanted to draw attention on the bills, resolutions and questions regarding the border areas and rural population which also met the same fate. He said that the teaching and medical staff deployed in the border belt of his constituency has been attached to their places near their homes due to political and bureaucratic approach, causing problems for the common public, even this important issues was not allowed to be discussed. He further said that the farmers constitute 80 per cent of the population but not even total 80 minutes were given to discuss the plight and grievances of the helpless farmers. Sham Choudhary regretted that opportune time to deliberate and take decisions for the welfare of the people and the state was wasted at the cost of public money.
