World Environment Day celebrated at Ramban

The World Environment Day was celebrated by District Pollution Control Board here today at Community Hall Ramban whereat students drawn from local schools participated.A debate competition was also held in which students expressed their views on importance of environment conservation.

MLA Ramban Neelam Langeh was the chief guest.District Development Commissioner, Ramban, Farooq Shah Bukhari, Divisional Officer of PCB, Chief Medical Officer and other senior functionaries of district administration were also present. World Environment Day is observed every year on June 5 by the United Nations to stimulate worldwide awareness about environment issues. The objective of celebrating this day is to mitigate the impact of global warming.The programme was coordinated by Kuldeep Bhan Divisional Officer of Pollution Control Board Ramban. 

In his address, the Chief Guest stressed the need for time-bound commitment to minimize the air and water pollution.“These targets must be met and surpassed to achieve the goals of creating safe and hygienic environment, combating diseases, checking deforestation and hunger and empowering downtrodden.He said trees, forests and water are inextricably linked. “So   every individual should consider it his duty to protect and prevent these natural resources to maintain ecological balance” he added.The DDC highlighted the bad effect of noise pollution on the human population. He said that concrete efforts are required at all levels of the society to contain the release of sound beyond the frequency of 20kHz - the audibility of human ears. He also said that air and water pollution are mainly responsible for spread of diseases among the human population.   He requested all the participants to contribute their bit in keeping environment neat and clean.

The students also suggested a host of ways through which people can reduce waste consumption and make a positive contribution towards   environment conservation.They suggested for purchasing locally-manufactured goods, using products with minimal packaging, recycling and reusing as much as possible. They also called for innovative ways of conservation and preservation of natural resources.Describing Ramban as a district bestowed with bounties of precious natural resources of water, green cover and fresh air, the speakers urged all to take a pledge to spread the message of preserving these gifts of nature for the future generations.
