After the attacks on mobile towers and the people associated with telecommunication business in North and Central Kashmir, the former militants and alleged stone-pleters have been feeling the heat as scores of them have been called to different police stations while at Cargo Srinagar, scores of youth have been detained for questioning from Tuesday morning.A long queue of family members of the detained youth outside Cargo Srinagar was seen on Tuesday and Wednesday waiting for the release of their loved ones. Majority of the parents told CNS that their sons are innocent and have been doing their business.

“Police official from Police Station called my son and directed him to report in the police station for questioning on Tuesday morning. From there he was shifted to Cargo and I have been waiting for his release since Tuesday afternoon,” said a father adding that his son is remotely linked to any subversive activity as he does his normal business.

Reports said that it is not the youth from Srinagar only, but youth from other parts of Kashmir have also been called to Cargo for questioning. “My son was linked to militancy for a brief period of time in 2009 but after his release in late 2010, he set up his own shop and started his own business. From past 5 years, he was never called to any police station but this time, he was called and detained for questioning,” said another parent. “If my brother would have been involved in any militancy related incident, I would not have been here then waiting for his release. I know he is innocent and he has been detained for none of his fault. Police has right to go tough on the militants but released militants who have shunned the path of violence should not be harassed,” said a youth. An ailing father said that whenever something untoward happens, released militants feel the heat. “Government should ensure that innocents should not suffer due to some activities done by some miscreants,” he said.

Reports said that youth have called to police stations for thorough questioning. “The process started after the militant attacks on mobile towers. After questioning youth are released and handed over to the family members,” said a police official. The attacks on telecommunication employees and towers started from North Kashmir where at least two persons were killed by gunmen while one was injured. The solitary grenade attack on mobile tower in Habbakadal locality created panic in Srinagar resulting in the closure of some mobile towers. (CNS)
