Government of Punjab has taken an initiative to distribute quality Rabi fodder seeds to the livestock owners of the State.Gulzar Singh Ranike, Minister of Animal Husbandry, Fisheries and Dairy, Punjab today said that certified fodder seed would be distributed to livestock owners at subsidized rates. From 22nd October onwards Rabi fodder seeds will be distributed on First come First serve basis, at all the block level Veterinary Hospitals, till the stock lasts.He also said that this certified seed has been procured from Punjab Agriculture University, Ludhiana, Milkfed Punjab, National Seed Corporation and National Agricultural cooperative Marketing Federation Limited, Govt. of India for distribution to livestock owners of the State. These certified seeds will increase the fodder production in the State and the farmers can also produce their own seed for the next year from it. 

The Minister further informed that Seeds will be distributed till the stock lasts. He told that the fodder seeds of Javi Kent @Rs. 15/-per kg, Rai Grass @Rs. 60/-per kg and   Saron(Chine Gobi) @Rs. 25/-per kg, will be distributed.He asked the livestock owners to get the prescribed form attested by Patvari/ Sarpanch/Namberdar/M.C./Member Panchyat and concerned Veterinary officer or Veterinary Inspector of Civil Veterinary Dispensary and deposit them with the block level Civil Veterinary Hospitals.The Minister directed the department officials that Government guidelines regarding reservation should be to strictly follow during seed distribution.He appealed to the farmers to use balanced fertilizers to protect their animals from poisonous fodder, because excessive use of Urea fertilizer results in poisoning of green fodder.
