The Punjab Education Department has decided to provide professional guidance to students from Class 10th to Class 12th and help them to choose right career according to their aptitude. Under this plan, District Level Career Guidance Camps would be organised in all parts of the state and the first such camp was organised at Guru Nanak Dev Bhawan, here today. Punjab Education Minister Dr Daljit Singh Cheema was the chief guest on the occasion.While addressing the students, Dr Daljit Singh Cheema said that it was felt that students due to lack of guidance and counselling get stuck in a career for which they do not have aptitude and they waste their education and life while pursuing wrong careers. He said that while interacting the students he felt that students from class X to XII needed professional counsellors, who could determine their aptitude adopting scientific and psychological tools and guide them to choose a career for according to their aptitude and strength.

Dr. Cheema said that counselling would be organised in all districts and first phase of counselling was inaugurated in Ludhiana today. He appealed to the parents to take active interest in the counselling exercise and bring their wards for counselling. He said that keeping in view greater rush during next three months these centers would work in all district headquarters 24X7 and he has asked DEOs to setup separate helpline district wise to ensure easy access of every student to counselling students.The Education Minister further said that the Shiromani Akali Dal-Bharatiya Janta Party government in the state is focussing mainly on education, health services and infrastructure. He said that there was a time when education in the state had sulked to 14th position in the country but due to good policies of the Punjab government, education in the state is amongst one of the top states of the country.He further said that career guidance counsellors in the state have been specially trained by the Punjab government and that now, each district of Punjab will have one Career Guidance Counselling Centre each.

Nodal Officer of this programme Mrs Shruti Shukla informed that all counsellors have visited Punjabi University Patiala, Guru Angad Dev Veterinary & Animal Sciences University Ludhiana, Punjab Agricultural University Ludhiana, Sri Guru Granth Sahib University Fatehgarh Sahib, Maharaja Ranjit Singh Armed Forces Preparatory Institute, Microbiological Technology Institute Chandigarh, Indian Institute of Science and Research Mohali, Chandigarh University Gharuan Campus, Chandigarh Institute of Hotel Management & Catering Technology, Gulzar Group of Institutes Ludhiana, Sainik School Kapurthala, Lovely Professional University Phagwara, PTU Campus and Ryat & Bahra Campus and taken details of all courses being taught there.On this occasion, students scoring above 80% marks in class tenth examinations were also honoured.Prominent among those present on the occasion included Advisor to CM Mr Mahesh Inder Singh Grewal, Principal Secretary of Education Department Mr C Raul, Punjab School Education Board chairperson Mrs Tejinder Kaur Dhaliwal, DGSE Mr Pardeep Aggarwal, Deputy Commissioner Mr Rajat Agarwal, Under Trainee IAS Mrs Syed Sehrish Asghar, DPI Mr Balvir Singh, DEO (Secondary) Mrs Paramjit Kaur Chahal, besides several others.
