The Minister for Education, Naeem Akhtar today said the debating culture would be revived in the State’s schools to cultivate youth leaders.“The debating culture is being revived in an organized manner in the schools starting with inter-school debating competitions at the district level,” the Minister said during his visit to various schools here today.He said the students who stand out in intra-district debating competitions would then participate in the State-level debating competition to be organized in September this year. “I would like our students to not only participate in debating competitions at the national level but want to reach them to the level of World Schools Debating Championship, one of the largest annual international student events in the world,” he said and added that the State Government would provide whatever resources are needed to promote revive debating in schools.

The Minister said as a part of this new initiative, a zonal level debating competition would be held at Girls Higher Secondary School Noorpora (Tral), on a localized topic “Environmental Issues and Opportunities in Tral”. He said there is a huge scope for preservation of, considerably unharmed, local ecology in Tral area while ensuring sustainable development.The Minister on this occasion also announced an inclusive Management Committee for Higher Secondary School Noorpora with local respectable citizens as its members. The Committee would suggest measures on how to make the school more attractive for the students. He also announced introduction of Education Stream in the said higher secondary.

During his visit to the Higher Secondary School Tral, the Minister announced introduction of Commerce stream in the said school. He also announced constitution of a Mountaineering Club for the institution, which would promote culture of exploration and observatory learning among the students.During his visit Higher Secondary School Chursoo, the Minister announced that the Education Department would adopt a brilliant student namely Kaan of the said school, to build his academic career.During his visit to Higher Secondary School Lorigam, the Minister ordered immediate upgradation of infrastructure there.

The Minister held extensive deliberations with the local citizens, students and teachers on how to streamline the education sector in the State.At most of the places, students and local residents complained of infrastructure severe deficiencies in the education sector.The Minister assured them that the Government would provide adequate resources for upgradation of education infrastructure in schools and colleges.MLA Tral, Mushtaq Ahmad Shah, Officers of Education Department, PDP Youth President Waheed-ur-Rehman Parra and SSP Pulwama accompanied the Minister.
