Maluka Launches On-Line Punjabi-English Dictionary

Languages Department Digitalizes 600 Rare Manuscripts And More Than 100 Rare Books

Punjab Education and languages Minister Sikander Singh Maluka today launched on-line Punjabi-English dictionary that was put on official website of State Languages department.Speaking on the occasion, Maluka said that in the present era of computerization, Internet and Website were the most powerful tool for promotion of any language or literature as a man sitting anywhere in the world can get required information by merely clicking a button. Appreciating the efforts of state language department in putting Punjabi-English dictionary on official website, Maluka pointed out that the administrative vocabulary put on the website by the department was proved quite beneficial for the readers. He said that the department has also preserved more than 600 rare manuscripts and more than 100 rare books through digitalization. He said that the department was going to put Punjab-Hindi-Urdu dictionary and legal terminology on departmental website www.pblanguages.govt.in soon.Earlier speaking on the occasion Mrs. Balbir Kaur, Director Languages Department informed that the department besides organizing various programmes for promotion of Punjabi language was also hosting different literary functions with the cooperation of different literary organizations. He said that the department keeping in view the demand of readers across the globe has republished 35 books namely, Mahan Kosh, Shri Gurpartap Suraj Granth, Bhai Veer Singh Rachnawali, Deewan-e-Ghalib, Gulistan-Bostan, History of Punjabi literature and Punjabi Parbodh. Besides this, 21 more books have been published. She further said that books related to different cities and towns with special emphasis on history and culture of Punjab have also been published. On this occasion Maluka released two departmental survey books on Khatkar Kalan and Dholbaha. Parminder Singh Dhindsa, Finance Minister, Avinash Chander, Chief Parliamentary Secretary, Dr. G Vajralingam, Principal Secretary Higher Education and Languages and Chander Gaind, Special Secretary Higher Education and Languages were also present on the occasion.
