Police Wednesday said it have booked twenty six people for rioting after the death of a man in Dargaloon village of Mendhar in Poonch district.Rafiq Ahmad of Dargaloon was abducted by unknown persons on the intervening night of May 1 from his house and was later taken to nearby bushes where he was tied with a tree, sources had said, adding, the man was also forced to consume some poisonous substance. Next morning, he was found by police with the help of locals and was taken to hospital where he succumbed later.Locals had alleged that a person Waseem Ahmad was behind Rafiq’s abduction and subsequent poisoning. But, police had rubbished locals’ allegation and started investigations were started under 174 CrPc. However, people took to streets and staged violent protests and also resorted to heavy stone pelting on police.
Police said the stone-throwing resulted in the injuries to seven cops and three of its vehicles were damaged. “We have booked 26 people under FIR number fir 47 under sections147, 148, 312, 323, 341, 427, 504, 506 RPC,” a senior police official told GNS.
Interestingly, the booked include government officials, village heads including a Sarpanch, Panch and National Conference worker and many women.Some of the accused were identified as Numberdar Nazirullah Khan, who is also Block president of National Conference and Asgar Ali, who is Sarpanch of Dargaloon. Besides, Farooq Magray, a Panch and Muhammad Khursheed, who is General Secretary of Beopar Mandal Mendhar have been booked while two government employees identified as Muhammad Maroof, a teacher and Social Welfare employee Shabir Ahmad too have been named in the FIR.
Police said that Nazirullah instigated people which lead to violence in the area. “All these people would be arrested,” police said, adding, some more others would be booked. (GNS)
