Nepal quake: 36 people airlifted to Kashmir, two bodies to Jammu

The bodies of two people from Jammu who were killed in the Nepal earthquake were on Tuesday brought back here from the Himalayan nation, while 36 people were airlifted to the Kashmir Valley, officials said.The bodies of the two people -- Sujan Singh and his son -- were brought to Jammu, a police officer told IANS.The 36 people from the Kashmir Valley, who were stranded in Nepal following the devastating earthquake, were evacuated from Kathmandu to New Delhi and later flown to Srinagar."Three of them had sustained injuries. They were admitted to the police hospital in Srinagar for treatment," the official said.After the earthquake hit Nepal on April 25, Jammu and Kashmir Police immediately set up a special helpline at the police control room for the people of the state who were stranded in the neighbouring country.

The control room was in constant touch with those of the ministry of external affairs (MEA) in Delhi and Kathmandu.The bodies of two victims were brought on Monday to Delhi from Nepal in coordination with the state's resident commissioner in New Delhi, the MEA and the Indian Air Force.They were later handed over to their relatives for the last rites at Jammu in the evening.An ambulance was arranged by the state government to bring back the bodies from Delhi to Jammu, the official said.
