The Punjab government today initiated first of its own kind of venture for preventive and curative health care of workers to provide onsite examination and treatment of workers.The Building and other Construction Workers Welfare Board (BOCW) has formulated a scheme for the regular medical examination of registered construction workers and their families on the construction sites.Disclosing this, an official spokesperson said that this scheme has been christened as ‘Mobile Lab Scheme’. Under this scheme, a team comprising of medical experts would visit the construction sites and medically examine not only the workers but also their families.

The spokesperson also said that the experts in the medical teams would check the workers and their kith and kin for the diagnosis of SILICOSIS and other dreaded diseases. In case, a worker or his/her family member is found having the symptoms of silicosis or any other ailment, then treatment at subsidized rates would be provided to them. He also conveyed that the Labour Department is also considering having a tie-up with the Health Department regarding this scheme and also being in touch with the media houses to guide people about life threatening diseases and maintaining hygienic lifestyle.
