Soldier, SOG man killed, 2 militants trapped in Baramulla Encounter

A policeman and a soldier were killed and two others including a civilian injured in a fierce encounter at Kunzar area of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district on Thursday morning.Official sources told GNS that following the specific information about the presence of the militants, the joint team of army’s 29 RR and SOG pattan launched cordon at Hardushoora Sultanpora village.As such the joint team of forces intensified the searches the militants opened heavy fire upon them, the forces retaliated the fire, ensuing an encounter.During the firing incident two army soldiers and an SOG man (SPO) Mohd Shafi sustained injuries, they said, adding that all the injured have been shifted to military hospital at 92 base here.A civilian Manzoor Ahmad Rather also got injured in the firing incident and was shifted to SKIMS Soura, they said.Two militants are believed to be trapped in the area, they said.

However, Soldier and SOG man identified as Mohammad Shafi later succumbed to injuries, they said.Confirming the incident, a senior defence ministry official, Colonel Brijesh Panday told GNS that following the specific information about the presence of the militants, the joint team of RR battalion and SOG pattan launched a cordon at Hardushoora Sultanpora village. “Based on specific intelligence inputs at 7.30 AM today, the joint team established the contact at 7.50 AM”, he said, adding that a soldier and a policeman lost their lives during the encounter.He said that the operation is still in progress.
