The Punjab Government today approved a Special Breeding Policy for Buffalos and Cows to further improve the standards of breed with an aim to increase the yield of milk in the state. Disclosing this here today, . Gulzar Singh Ranike, Animal Husbandary, Fishery and Dairy Development Minister, said that the Punjab Cabinet has approved this policy to improve the quality and breed of buffalos and cows by ensuring optimum use of semen. He said that this policy would also prevent the rise in numbers of mixed breed.  . Ranike said that under Punjab Animal Husbandry Improvement Act-1953, the state government has approved this policy to increase the yield of milk and for the further improving the breeds of Neeli Ravi buffalos and cows of Sahi breeds as it was the call of the day to save these breeds having capacity to give milk in huge quantity. Ranike also said that an amount of Rs. 150 Crore has been passed for Punjab to strengthen the semen station, breeding centers and modernization of milk societies.
