Singapore transport to come to standstill in tribute to Lee

All Mass Rapid Transit trains will pull to a stop, there will be no aircraft landings and take-offs at airport, and all port activities will come to a grinding halt as Singapore's transport workers pay homage to the city's tallest leader Lee Kuan Yew Sunday afternoon.Singapore's transport sector workers will also observe a minute of silence at 4 p.m. on Sunday as funeral of late former prime minister Lee Kuan Yew, who died at the age of 91 on Monday after a long battle with pneumonia, is conducted.According to a Singapore government statement, prior to the minute of silence, all Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) trains will pull to a stop at stations and open their doors. 

Buses scheduled to depart from bus interchanges and terminals will be held back during the one minute of silence. Passenger information displays in the MRT network and bus interchanges will show "One minute of silence for Lee Kuan Yew". Announcements will also be made at stations and on board trains.

All MRT and road work sites will stop work to observe the minute of silence.At Changi airport, according to the statement, there will be no landings or take-offs for a short period of time around 4 p.m.Staff at all three terminals from various organisations across the airport community will be united in observing a minute of silence. They include airlines such as Singapore International Airlines, Silkair, Scoot, Tiger and Jetstar.

The funeral service will be broadcast at all 181 television screens at gatehold rooms across the three airport terminals for staff and visitors to participate in the one minute of silence. The airport community and public have also been invited to visit the special commemorative tribute located at the departure level of Terminal 3 that showcases the legacy that Lee has left on Singapore's aviation journey.Port workers at container terminals at Brani, Keppel and Tanjong Pagar, along with those working at ferry and cruise terminals at Harbour Front and Marina South Pier, will temporarily suspend all their operations. Those at the PSA terminals and Jurong Port, as well as cruise and ferry terminals and landing places operated by MPA, Marina Bay Cruise Centre (MBCC) and Singapore Cruise Centre (SCC), will join the nation in observing a minute of silence.
