18th PTU Annual Athletic Meet 2014-15 commenced at Shaheed Udham Singh Group of Institutions (SUSGOI) on Saturday, 14 March,2015. 50 teams of different colleges affiliated to Punjab Technical University (PTU), Jalandhar participated in the Inter College men & women Athletic Meet. The meet was inaugurated by the Chief Guest of the day Dr. Shakti Kumar, Vice Chancellor, Baddi University of Emerging Sciences & Technology (BUEST) and Dr. S.S Randhawa, Director Sports PTU and Dr. N.S Deol, Head Physical Education Department, Punjabi University, Patiala were the Guests of Honor. Honourable guests unfurled the University games flag.
The function started with the torch lightning ceremony. Dr. Shakti Kumar took the March salute and declared the meet open. The audience witnessed the releasing of the coloured balloons signifying the colorful and joyous life of a sportsperson. Dr. M.S Grewal, Director SUSGOI, Dr. Sukhjeet Kaur Dean Student welfare SUSGOI, Prof. HPS Sidhu, Principal SUSEC, Er. Sushil Kamboj Principal SUSPC, S. Gurmail Singh Gill and S. Paramjit Singh Sandhu, Sports Officers were also present on the occasion. The first day of the mega event witnessed number of sports events including 1500M Final, Hammer throw, Pole Vault, Long Jump,100m Race, 10M Hurdles heats, 100M hurdles heats, Discus Throw Final, 200M Race, 400M walk Final, 400M hurdles heats etc.
Dr. Shakti Kumar addressed the athletes & wished them success in their sports career and exhorted them to do their best and compete in the spirit of sportsmanship and fair play. He further urged the students to study harder & to keep on participating in the co-curricular activities with devotion and encouraged the participation of girls.Er. Sukhwinder Singh Sidhu, Chairman SUSGOI appreciated the participation & interest shown by the students towards sports and added that the students have won a number of prizes at PTU level and various other inter college competitions.
