Minister for Roads & Buildings Abdul Majid Wani replying to a question by Mohammad Muzaffar Parray informed the House that the work for construction of 216 mtr span Sopore Bridge was sanctioned in July, 2002 and was awarded to M/s Mirson Construction Pvt Ltd for Rs.7.86 crore.The Minister said that the completion date for the project was March, 2008, but it could not be completed timely due to certain reasons including limited working season, earth quake that devastated the entire Valley in October, 2005, unprecedented flood and adverse law and order situation during 2008, 2009 and 2010. Wani said that one bridge at Mehrajpora has been approved under Special Area Development Programme during 2012-13 and entrusted to JKPCC for which work has been started recently, adding that after completion, the bridge would serve as a bypass to Sopore Town and would reduce traffic congestion of the town.The BEACON Authorities are also constructing the Tulibal Bridge, expected to be completed by December, 2013, he added.
